The Oyster MC for MM Phono Preamps
With the introduction of the Blue Point No. 3, Sumiko celebrates 40 years of innovation in cartridge development. Building on the success of the Blue Point No. 2, the resonance characteristics have been further refined to enhance sound performance. Resonance has a significant impact on sound, and Sumiko has made substantial improvements by redesigning the cartridge housing.
In terms of sound, the Blue Point No. 3 recalls classic MM cartridges from Shure and Stanton, known for their smoothness. The proven MC technology adds nuance and subtlety, characteristic of Sumiko MCs. Particularly notable is the powerful bass response, which is both voluminous and detailed – a true delight for bass lovers. The midrange is equally rich and full, while the treble is fine and airy.
The Sumiko Blue Point No.3 High is best suited for medium-mass tonearms.
Technical Specifications
- Output Voltage: 2.5 mV
- Preamp Connection/Load Impedance: Phono MM / 47 kΩ
- Weight: 6 g
- Dynamic Compliance, lateral: 12 μm at 100 Hz
- Stylus Shape: Elliptical (r/R 8 x 18 μm)
- Tracking Force: 2 g
* The output voltage is only 2.5 mV. Compared to a typical MM cartridge (around 4.0 mV), this cartridge is quieter. Therefore, the MM phono preamp should have adjustable sensitivity or be low-noise. With modern MM preamps, this usually works very well
