Product Launch: NAGAOKA MP-700 – Next-Generation High-End Cartridge
With the MP-700, NAGAOKA – the traditional Japanese manufacturer of high-quality audio components – proudly presents the new flagship of its renowned MP series. The cartridge will be available from May 31, 2025 in two versions: the MP-700 and the MP-700H, the latter including a premium headshell. The suggested retail prices are €1,299 for the MP-700 and €1,399 for the MP-700H version.
Precision Meets Innovation – The MP Design
The heart of the new model is the proven Moving Permalloy (MP) design, which offers clear advantages over conventional Moving Magnet (MM) technology. Instead of a magnet, a particularly lightweight Permalloy element is attached to the cantilever. This construction significantly reduces the moving mass and allows the stylus to move more freely and precisely – with noticeably improved detail and naturalness in sound reproduction.
Premium Materials for Premium Sound
The cantilever is made of high-quality boron, a material known for its high stiffness and low weight. It is topped with a Micro-Ridge diamond, directly mounted as a nude diamond. With its fine dimensions of 0.12 x 0.3 mil, it delivers extremely precise tracking – especially with complex musical passages.
Optimized Damping and Stable Tracking
Within the MP series, the MP-700 features the softest damping configuration, which, in combination with the precise cantilever, ensures an especially responsive performance. To ensure the required stability despite this high compliance, NAGAOKA has integrated a newly developed suspension wire into the pivot system. This wire effectively controls stylus movement and ensures stable and clear playback even at high frequencies.
Premium Build for Premium Demands
The cartridge is housed in a shielded body and mounted on a cartridge frame made from ultra-duralumin. A triple surface finish – consisting of nickel plating, black tin coating, and a protective insulating layer – provides effective protection against static charge, enhances wear and heat resistance, and contributes to the refined appearance.
Like all NAGAOKA products, the MP-700 is entirely handmade in Japan by skilled artisans. This reflects the brand’s uncompromising commitment to precision and quality, ensuring lasting listening pleasure.
