The Ortofon SPU Royal N is designed to be mounted on 1/2″ headshells with the adapter. It is technically closely related to the Ur-SPUs from the late 1950s – the classic par excellence. The Ortofon Replicant diamond cut allows for extremely high detail.
The abbreviation N stands for the “naked” design of the cartridge, which is otherwise installed in a can. The adapter necessary for mounting on a headshell with half-inch mounting is included. Bare SPUs play a bit slimmer compared to SPU sound cans. The bare diamond of this SPU has less moving mass compared to a bonded diamond. The lower inertia thus allows the scanning diamond to follow the groove modulation more easily. More fine information and improved dynamic response are the immediately audible results.
